CFII & MEI TRAINING

________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Why obtain the CFII and MEI certificates?

Earning the Certified Flight Instructor-Instrument and Multi-Engine Instructor certificates allows you to teach a wider range of students than by just holding the basic CFI certificate, placing you in high demand with many flight training schools. You will be able to build multi-engine and instrument time, necessary for more advanced aviation career opportunities. The add-on instructor ratings will also expand your knowledge, judgment, and teaching abilities, and overall make you a better pilot.

What are the requirements?

Both the CFII and MEI courses require that you must have logged at least 15 hours of PIC time in an aircraft with the same make & model before taking the practical test. All other requirements are the same as the CFI basic certificate. The CFII course requires a written test and practical exam, while the MEI only requires the oral exam and checkride. Instrument and multi-engine proficiency and currency will be acheived in training.

What aircraft will I fly in?

The CFII course is flown primarily in one of our Cessna 172R's, while the MEI course is in our Piper Seminole.

How much is it going to cost? How much time?

While there is no minimum amount of time necessary for the practical test, the CFII program on average requires 15 hours of flight time and 20 hours of ground time with a CFII. The MEI program averages 15 hours of flight time and 15 hours of ground time with a MEI.

Most instructor applicants obtain their CFII and MEI certificates seperately, but there is also an option to combine the two ratings in the Piper Seminole. Usually this requires 20 hours of flight time and 30 hours of ground training. Actual time and cost varies on performance, availability, and the ratings sought.

What training will I receive?

For both the CFII and MEI ratings, you will be required to demonstrate flight & oral proficiency to at least that of a Commercial single or multi-engine pilot, with an instrument rating. You will also review all pertinent areas of operations to either/or the Instrument and Multi-Engine ratings and learn to incorporate those concepts to students in a training environment.
